Sol LeWitt Lecture and Lunch with Landmarks

Join Landmarks to celebrate two works by Sol LeWitt recently installed at the Gates Dell Complex. The concrete block structure Circle with Towers provides a gathering place for the community outside the Speedway entrance to the complex.Wall Drawing #520 adds lush color to three walls in the atrium of the complex. The two works share LeWitt’s use of basic geometiric elements in his work.
A public lecture on LeWitt and these works will be given by Veronica Roberts, former director of research for the Sol LeWitt Wall Drawing Catalogue Raisonne and curator at the Blanton Museum of Art.
Lunch with Landmarks has also arranged for food truck Peached Tortilla to provide its award-winning menu at reasonable prices. Landmarks docents will be offering guided tours throughout the lunch event. Games and prizes.

ECDHELON Teufelsberg ist eine akusmatische Komposition, die weitgehend auf Vor-Ort-Aufnahmen innerhalb der verlassenen Spionageeinrichtung Teufelsberg basiert. Das Stück will sowohl den speziellen akustischen Charakter des Ortes — vor allem seiner großen Radarkuppel — erforschen, als auch dessen intime und fast metaphysische Natur, in der Mythen und Legenden des 20. Jahrhunderts nachhallen.
Hier treffen sich ein klangwissenschaftlicher und ein literarischer Ansatz auf eine Weise, die diese unterschiedlichen Zugänge unkenntlich macht. Der Teufelsberg ist ein künstlicher Hügel, erbaut nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg aus dem Schutt des zerstörten Berlin, und stellt den höchsten Punkt der Stadt dar. Die amerikanische National Security Agency NSA hat auf dem Hügel einen ihrer größten Horchposten errichtet, von dem gerüchteweise verlautet, er sei Teil des globalen ECHELON-Spionagenetzwerks gewesen, das Funksprüche noch tief in der Sowjetunion auffangen sollte. Die Basis wurde in den frühen 1990er Jahren aufgegeben.
Die Haupt-Radarkuppel des verlassenen Teufelsberger SIGINT ist eine faszinierende akustische Umgebung: Sie besteht aus Glasfiber-Sechsecken mit einem Betonboden. Innerhalb des Raums gibt es einen sagenhaften Nachhall von 20 Sekunden ebenso wie eine sehr komplexe Anordnung von stark räumlich ausgerichteten Echos. Dauer, Verzögerung, Richtung, Intensität und Spektrum dieser Echos wechseln dramatisch von Ort zu Ort innerhalb der Kuppel.

The “Tropospheric Laboratory” allows insights into cloud cores and other matter of the apogee. The installation narrates the synthesis of clouds and shows varying conditions and combinations of art and science in the absence of weight.
The “laboratory” is the gravimetric document of “Cloud Core Scanner” – an experiment and artistic project by Agnes Meyer-Brandis, carried out on board a German Aerospace Center research plane.
It reflects an iridescent world, between controlled and unleashed states: artistic research on the quest for a degree of reality within constructions.

Ο Χριστόφορος Μαρίνος γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1975 και μεγάλωσε στον Πύργο της Κύμης Εύβοιας. Σπούδασε Ιστορία της Τέχνης (Κριτική Θεωρία) στο Camberwell College of Arts, The London Institute (1997-2000) και συνέχισε τις μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές του στην Ιστορία της Τέχνης (20ός αιώνας) στο Goldsmiths College, University of London (2000-2001), όπου μεταξύ άλλων παρακολούθησε τα σεμινάρια του Sarat Maharaj (συνεπιμελητή της Documenta XI) πάνω στην πολιτισμική μετάφραση καθώς επίσης και τα σεμινάρια της επιμελήτριας Chery Smyth σχετικά με την εππελεοτική γραφή (performative writing). Από το 2001 ώς το 2003 συνεργάστηκε με την ομάδα νέων εικαστικών καλλιτεχνών που πραγματοποίησε τις εκθέσεις-δράσεις στο Λόφο του Φιλοπάππου, στην Πορταριά Πηλίου, στην Ιθάκη και στην γκαλερί Gazon Rouge. Έχει επίσης επιμεληθεί τέσσερις φορές για τα Rooms που διοργανώνει η αίθουσα τέχνης Καππάτος (Ελένη Αθανασοπούλου, 2002· Ραλλού Παναγιώτου, 2003· Λεωνίδας Λιάμπεης 2004- Εύα Βρετζάκη & Poka-Yio, 2005), έχει συνεπιμεληθεί την έκθεση “Συνέργεια” στο Κέντρο Σύγχρονης Τέχνης Λάρισας και διοργάνωσε την έκθεση “Η Ζωή με τα θηρία” στον εκθεσιακό χώρο της Βαβέλ (2004). Ανήκει στη συντακτική ομάδα του περιοδικού futura και από το 2001 συνεργάζεται με το περιοδικό Βαβέλ. Από τις εκδόσεις futura κυκλοφορεί η μελέτη του “Το όργιο ως κινηματογραφική εμπειρία” (2002). Είναι μέλος της ομάδας The Reading Group και επιμελείται, μαζί με την Ξένια Καλπακτσόγλου, τη στήλη για τα εικαστικά στο περιοδικό Velvet. Από το 2005 ανήκει στο επιστημονικό προσωπικό του Εθνικού Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης. Ζει και εργάζεται στην Αθήνα.
