Storefront

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 19:21

2013 could be defined by several dramas: a growing loss of confidence in the economic and political systems in place, a growing culture of consumerism within the art practices and an aura of irrelevance and impotence within the architecture field. However, 2013 could also be defined by several major dreams: a growing desire for equal access to resources (such as information and health), a growing culture of economic support by individuals for art projects and the omnipresent belief that the world needs more alternative art and architecture practices to drive us into the future we imagine.

While Art is always disrespectfully on time and Architecture is usually elegantly late, at Storefront we aspire to react and respond to the relevant questions of our time with the depth and breadth of architectural thinking and the agility and incisiveness of art practices. Within the collective imaginary, Storefront is a place where a different way of practicing architecture, of presenting art and of being a citizen is possible. Storefront is also one of the only institutions that asks and articulates questions and answers beyond disciplinary or geographical boundaries, thus making it a place for beginnings in cultural but also in social and political terms.
Through its current five lines of action: Events, Projects, Exhibitions, Competitions and Publications, Storefront allows the contemporary cultural cacophony to find a critical public to expose and test its thoughts while simultaneously offering surgical operations to transform and develop specific ideas. We do this by bringing the most inspiring and knowledgeable individuals and collectives together today locally, nationally and internationally.
In 2013 Storefront operated fast and slow, big and small, on local and global scales with projects in New York and around the globe. It created new ongoing platforms for international exchange with the Storefront International Series, new ongoing projects for architectural reflection in the Competition of Competitions, a new space for the discussion of ideas through the Storefront TV Station and published new ideas through the Manifesto Book Series.
This last year we presented 6 exhibitions including BEING, a 30th Anniversary exhibition still on view till Jan 14th, which includes 11 one-week residencies for emerging artists and architects; commissioned 2 major site-specific installations in the city as part ofPerforma13 and Marfa Dialogues; started the Storefront International Series with events in the Dominican Republic andLisbon; launched the WorldWide Storefront project with an ongoing global Open Call for Proposals; presented a series of public projects as part of theIdeas City Festival; published 2 new books in partnership with Lars Muller, hosted more than 30 public programs, and much more. We invite you to visit ourvideo archive or our web archive where you can browse these projects and all Storefront projects since 1982.
In the year ahead, we will offer exhibitions and events that address contemporary architectural questions and pressing issues including social justice, freedom of expression, gun violence, race, sustainability, civil rights, access to information, and other important drivers in the construction of public life in New York and around the globe.
In the year ahead, as we have done in the past, Storefront will provide forums for the production of public debate, empower artists working within critical practices and facilitate paths to situate architecture and architects within relevant spaces of action.
As Storefront enters 2014, and continues its programming while working on theOfficeUS project representing the United States at the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, we need your support.
This email is not just to talk about dramas and dreams, it’s also to ask for dollars to pursue our dream to go beyond the current dramas. Andy Warhol once said that to make money is an art; if only to ask for it was an art that I mastered.
I wish you happy times
best

ANIMATION

Filed under: NOTES ON ANIMATION — admin @ 07:36
http://lucian.uchicago.edu/blogs/mediatheory/keywords/animation/

Discussions of animation often involve concepts of metamorphosis, anthropomorphism, transmogrification, fantasymimesis , the polymorphous perversity of bodies, its oddness and absurdity. Cartoon animation has an amorphous, elastic quality that allows forms the freedom to move and change–ordinary objects transform magically, movement is synchronized to music, and inanimate objects become humanized. Metamorphosis was a founding concept of animation, beginning with early French animator Emile Cohl, and is commonly used for fantastic or comic effect. Likewise, transmogrification is one of the advantages of working in animation rather than in live action. Animated figures are not grounded in actual physicality–they transform at the whim of the animator. [18]

ΘΕΜΑ : Στο ενδιάμεσο….

Filed under: IN BETWEEN 2014 — admin @ 17:50
Τι μπορεί να σημαίνει το ενδιάμεσο;
Ο Καζαντζάκης αναφερόμενος στην ζωή την ονομάζει «το ενδιάμεσο φωτεινό σημείο » μεταξύ της ανυπαρξίας του πριν και του μετά. Μήπως όλη η ζωή εν τέλει είναι In between;

In-between. Στο ενδιάμεσο….
